Super Powereds Terminology[]

  • Absorber - The power to absorb energy and often to use that energy as well. Typically, absorbers can only absorb one type of energy and have a limited capacity. Absorbers cannot absorb and use their energy at the same time. Vince Reynolds is rare in that he can absorb nearly any type of energy and has no known limit on capacity. This term is also applied to the rare type of supers who can absorb things like injuries, and inflict them on opponents.
  • Advanced Mind - A description of supers with powers related to their mind's ability to exercise telepathy or telekinesis in some form.
  • Anchor - A term applied to supers with the ability to prevent teleporters from using their powers in a specific area.
  • Authority - Also known as "Concurrent Effect Dominance". Who, among two Supers, has the more dominant ability. This doesn't mean that one ability is stronger than the other, just more dominance. If two Supers stand next to each other with conflicting power effects, the more dominant power will happen.
  • Corpies - The name, sometimes intended as derogatory, given to supers who work for various private companies instead as certified heroes. Some are discrete, working behind the scenes. Others work in the public with full public corporate sponsorship.
  • Elementalists - Supers with the power to control, produce, or manipulate various elements, such as fire, ice, air, earth, gravity, or lighting. Though rare, some elementalists can fully transform into their element.
  • Enchanter - A term used to describe supers with the ability to entrance, manipulate, cast illusions, or otherwise change the perceptions of others.
  • Enhancer - Also known as amplifiers, this term describes supers with the ability to enhance or amplify the powers of other supers.
  • Hero - A Super who has been trained and certified to fight Supers engaged in criminal activities. These are the only people that are deemed as insurable and as such are protected from culpability over damage caused in the course of their duties. The process to become a Hero requires acceptance into and completion of the Hero Certification Program, followed by two years working under the supervision of a current Hero.
  • Obfuscator: A type of hero who has the ability to obfuscate an area with smoke or fog, or otherwise prevent others from seeing what's going on around them.
  • Power Assessment - A method for determining or measuring a hero's powers in comparison to other heroes. Frequently used by heroes who want to find out who is the stronger hero, it is also a method to analyze the strength and weakness of any given hero.
  • Power Classifications - A list designed to give shorthand terminology to describe a Super's abilities.
  • Powered - A person who possesses an ability beyond the physical capabilities of humans that they cannot control. Being Powered is considered a handicap due to the difficulties it can impose on one's life, to the point where there are charities and organizations dedicated to helping them cope. Prior to the start of the story there were no recorded cases of a Powered becoming either a Super or a human.
  • Shifter - A term used to describe a super with power to shift or transform into a new form or being, this can be a new person, such as Roy and Hershel, or into some sort of animal or creature.
  • Speedster - Supers with the power to move at super-speed, which typically includes enhanced durability, perception, and reaction time, to go along with their super-speed.
  • Strongman - A general term used to describe supers with enhanced strength and durability.
  • Summoner - A super with the ability to summon crafted creatures or animals to do the super's bidding.
  • Super - A person who possesses and can control an ability beyond the physical capabilities of humans. Though seemingly straightforward, the exact definition for what constitutes beyond human abilities is always changing. An example of this is Will Murray, whose power was not viewed as fitting the requirements to make him a Super until a few years after his birth.
  • Tech-Supers - A term used to describe supers with the ability to either manipulate technology at their will, or those who have the power to invent incredibly complex pieces of technology beyond the abilities of any scientist.
